This album was recorded in our own studio and we had a lot of fun making it. All the basic tracks were recorded in 4 session days (we've still got some good ones left). Drums, bass & guitars went to 8 track tape (our good old Otari tape recorder) while singing (or sometimes shouting...) guide vocals. For drums we used the Glyn Johns miking technique, with only one overhead microphone above the snare, one behind the floortoms and one mic on the kick. Dubs went to the tape as well: the old Zimmermann Upright piano, electric 12 string , organ, some acoustic guitar and harmonica. Eric Geevers lent us a great electric Sitar guitar that went well with the psychedelic vibe of some of the songs. Liesbeth Verwiel came over to play a short but beautiful saxophone solo on "Love At First Sight". On the self titled song "Rough 'n Tumble" we used the speed button on the Otari to create some spacy, almost cinematic effects. The songs written by Anton except "Down", written by Anton & Martin together while "Live Life" was written by Martin. They produced and mixed the album together and the mastering was done by Frederik Dejongh (Jerboa Mastering). The artwork pictures were taken by Marbella Uhlenbeck, after a great gig in the Route 66 Bar in Scheveningen/ Den Haag, a few streets away from where Anton & Martin were born. Leo Leeflang provided the layout/artwork. The official videos were made by moviemaker/director Marc Waltman.
